The Baptism in the Jordan

For thousands of years people have asked the question: Why did Jesus need to get baptized?

You may have heard an array of answers:

  • It was an instruction of what we are to do.
  • His baptism made the Jordan’s waters holy for others
  • Baptism is essential to relationship with God

I figure that if all these extremely smart theologians haven’t come to a clear answer, well, maybe it’s one of those things which will remain a mystery.

Perhaps when I die, I’ll find the answer to this question. Or, perhaps, I’ll find out that the question wasn’t all that important in the first place.

Does it affect our understanding of who God and Jesus are? I doubt it.

But it did happen, and today we celebrate this wonderful mystery.
