The bread of life

How wonderfully appropriate that today’s readings focus on the Living Bread – which is of course our Lord Himself!

When we ask our Father for our daily bread, we could be thinking about bodily sustenance. And surely we do need food and drink to survive.

But Jesus has shown us that there’s something far more important than just survival of the body.

It’s the soul.

When I think about it, it should be obvious. After all, my current body will last only the one lifetime – 70 or 100 years or whatever I’m given.

But my soul will live forever. Which makes the length of this lifetime trivial by comparison.

So nourishment of my soul is infinitely more important. And that’s what Jesus brings us!

I am the living bread that came down from heaven – John 6:51
