Our thoughts today are on serving the Lord:
As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” — Joshua 24:15
Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” — John 6:67-68
When we confess that we want God’s will to be done, this is exactly what it means. We will serve God, and we will serve others because that’s God’s will.
This makes us extremely uncomfortable in our modern age. It strikes me to my core. We’re all about achievement of the individual: fame and fortune.
But Jesus was very clear that this is not where our reward is in heaven.
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’” — Matthew 25:34-36
This is what serving our Lord means. Am I doing that with my life?
