What a wonderful time of expectation we have!
When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting,
Luke 1:41-42
the infant leaped in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said,
“Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
When Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth, who was herself carrying John the Baptist, we see this wonderful recognition of the presence and power of God.
When reflecting on this chapter of Luke, I noticed that the phrase “blessed are you among women” was exactly the same as how Gabriel greeted Mary at Jesus’ conception.
It doesn’t seem that we place much importance on these kinds of greetings these days. We use “hello” and “good to meet you” as filler phrases.
Not much thought.
But our Holy Mother is indeed specially blessed among all women. That’s a powerful concept.
And I shouldn’t take it lightly.
