Some celebrate today the Immaculate Heart of Mary. If you want to see a bit more about this, check out the Wikipedia article.
What I’m pondering is the purity of Our Lady’s devotion and dedication. I have plenty of things in my own life that I’ve stayed committed to for a long period of time, even decades.
But what about my purity of dedication? I’m not so sure.
Yes, my faith falters sometimes as well. It seems to be the constant internal battle over what I build my life around.
We don’t really know what was going on in Mary’s heart. Maybe she had misgivings as well. We only know a bit about what we can infer from her actions.
But as far as we can tell, she remained committed to her God and her Son from the first moment we meet her.
Which is just about the best thing that any of us can do.
Holy Mary, help me to keep my focus on God and keep listening to your Son. Amen.
